As proud sponsors of Future Leaders – The Utilities Mentoring Network, Consult Energy was delighted to be able to host our third networking event on Thursday the 30th of January as the perfect way to start off the new year. It was humbling to see so many mentors, mentees and other members of the Future Leaders utilities community make the journey from all over the country all in the name of strengthening the energy workforce.
This time the event was focused around the theme of having the confidence to create your own success, professionally and personally. After discovering that one of the main barriers to career progression is in fact a lack of confidence, and even imposter syndrome, Future Leaders decided to tackle the issue head on with the excellent help of industry leaders.
The event kicked off with a session from learning and performance director Mark Houlihan, who explored the topic of inner confidence and how to harness your own self-belief to bolster your progress at work and generally become the best version of yourself. Mark gave the group some tangible strategic tips for bringing your a-game, even when you’re not feeling your best.
Next on the agenda was Rob Lester, a self-awareness coach, who helped us tackle our imposter syndrome. This is something that many people at all levels of seniority experience and can be really detrimental to your success and happiness. Rob unpacked why many of us feel this way and gave us all some really useful pointers on how to silence that negative voice in our heads with positive affirmations.
The event then rounded off with a talk from one of the scheme’s fantastic mentees, Lyndsay Harrison, who filled us in on how she’s found being a Future Leaders mentee and what it means to her. Lyndsay spoke about how receiving regular guidance and confidence building from her mentor has meant that she’s been able to tackle her fear of public speaking and enhanced her career in turn.
Future Leaders founder, Ian Parry, delivered a heart-warming speech on the journey the Future Leaders Mentoring Scheme has taken, from its infancy to the current bustling network of passionate and enthusiastic utilities professionals:
“It was fantastic to have so many industry leaders in one place networking and sharing their passion for the energy and utilities market. Not only that, but we were made up to see multiple people reconnecting with past colleagues and industry contacts as well – which was a great testament to the importance of these events. We’re already looking forward to the next one!”
